Mangaluru: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which was supposed to be held in Mangaluru on January 19, has been called off.

This decision has come after the Congress party and progressive thinkers opposed the rally and Shah’s entry into the city.

However, the state BJP, in a press note, stated that the rally has not been cancelled, but has merely been rescheduled to be held in Hubbali on January 18 in the Nehru Maidan.

Meanwhile, sources in the BJP have clarified that the reason for the cancellation of the Mangaluru pro-CAA rally was the law and order situation of the Dakshina Kannada district, as violence had recently errupted in Mangaluru city.
