Puttur: In yet another case of school teacher’s transfer, students along with parents protested against the decision at Kemminje government high school in Mottetadka.
Savitha Kumari, a teacher serving in the school since 19 years has been identified as an additional teacher and a transfer order was passed after counseling. But the School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members, parents along with students demanded that the transfer order should be revoked. The teacher is admired by the students as well as the locals and the protesters opined that her transfer might affect the future of the students. As many as 185 students boycotted the classes and demanded justice.
The protest was supported by Jayakarnataka association. Taluk president Jagadish Shetty Nellikatte said, “Today in schools there is groupism among the teachers. There are over 185 students in this school, therefore the department should not have issued the transfer orders without consulting the the SDMC and the parents. Hence, the students’ plea must be heard”. Secretary of the Jayakarnataka association alleged that the Block Education Officer is directly responsible for all the issues; hence he must be transferred first.
MLA Shakuntala Shetty visited the school and spoke to the protesters who urged to cancel the transfer order. Shetty spoke to them and said that though she would not be able to revoke the transfer order, she would bring the issue to the notice of the education minister.
She also sought details from education department officer Lokananda and said that the rule of transfer is in place in all the taluks across the state. But here in Puttur there is confusion in the process of transfer and the erring concerned department officials are responsible, she said taking the officials to task.
