Mangaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice-president V R Sudarshan opposed the move of union government of misusing the Tenth Schedule of Indian Constitution, which governs the anti-defection law and demanded proper implementation of anti-defection law.

Sudarshan, who was in city along with the members of fact-finding committee, to find the reason for party’s defeat in both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, told presspersons at district Congress office, on Tuesday that the BJP had confined the MLAs of both the Congress and the JDS in order to topple the coalition government. “The BJP has been misusing the anti-defection law and formed the government through illegal means,“ he said and added that the fact-finding committee would visit all constituencies and gather information from the public and party leaders and send a report to the KPCC on October 2.

Former minister and senior Congress leader Basvaraja Rayareddy said, “ The BJP has no moral right to form the government as it gained power through an unconstitutional way. Speaker Ramesh Kumar’s decision on disgruntled MLAs was historic and it should be a lesson to those who abandon the party. When the by-election would be held for the constituencies represented by disqualified MLAs, people should defeat the candidates of the BJP so as to teach them a befitting lesson”.

Responding to a query on a rumour that Siddaramaiah allegedly sent MLAs to Mumbai in order to topple H D Kumaraswamy led coalition government, Rayareddy said that  Siddaramaiah is a man of commitment and he will never do that. “I have known Siddaramaiah for a very long time. He is not a man of a double standard. Such rumours are created by the leaders of the BJP in order to tarnish the image of Siddaramaiah”, he informed.

Former ministers U T Khader, former MLA Shakunthala Shetty, fact fining committee members Dhruvanarayana Rangaswamy, Veerakumar Patil among others were present.
