Anti-rowdy squads mooted to curtail increased hooliganism

Considering the increased rowdy activities in the city in the last few days, the police department has decided to set up two separate anti-rowdy squads within the city commissionerate to put an end to the rowdy menace in its jurisidiction.

According to the order issued in this regard, one squad each will function under the southern police subdivision and the other under the northern subdivision limits.

Recently, for the southern subdivision, an eight-member team has been formed which will be lead by Assistant Commissioner of Police Rama Rao. The southern subdivision covers Ullal, Konaje, Kankanady and some other areas.

The squad covering the northern subdivision covering Panambur, Suratkal, Mulky, Bajpe, Moodbidri, Mangaluru Rural, Kavoor etc., is yet to be formed.

City Police Commissioner T R Suresh said that there were about 1,000 rowdies in the district. He asserted that they would prepare a list of rowdies and summon them to either issue warnings or for any other relevant legal action. Active rowdies would be summoned frequently for issuance of warnings, he added.
