Mangaluru: The Principal District and Sessions Court has sentenced three persons to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with an attempt to murder case, on Friday, November 23.
The convicts are Arjun (27), a resident of Bajal, Abhi alias Abhishek of Kudupu and Karthik of Shakthi Nagar. According to the charge sheet filed with the court by the then inspector of Kankanady Town police station Ravi Naik, Arjun took a loan of Rs 25 Lakh from one Sathish Gambir of Bellur, Benjanapadavu. But, when Sathish demanded his money back, Arjun was enraged and hatched a plan to murder the lender. He asked Abhishek and Karthik to murder Sathish on July, 14, 2017.
As per the direction of Arjun, Abhishek and Karthik took Sathish to an abandoned place claiming that Arjun was waiting to repay his money there. Later, both Abhishek and Karthik stabbed Sathish and attempted to murder him. However, Sathish succeeded in escaping from the spot and registered a complaint with Kankanady City Police against Arjun, Abhishek and Karthik.
When the case cme up for hearing at the Principal District and Sessions Court, Judge Kadluru Sathyanarayana Acharya upheld the arguments of Special Public Prosecutor Pushparaja Adyanthaya and sentenced the accused to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 under IPC Section 307 (Attempt to murder), 1 year rigorous imprisonment under IPC Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 2 years rigorous imprisonment under IPC Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
