Mangaluru: Customs authorities carried out a special operation at Mangaluru International Airport, seizing 322 grams and 857 grams of gold items. Two individuals traveling from Dubai to Mangaluru on IndiGo Flight 6E1163 and Air India Express Flight IX814 on November 8 and 13 were apprehended and underwent thorough scrutiny.
In the course of the illicit smuggling attempt, customs officials confiscated items including a watch with a dial-shaped radium, a ballpoint pen, a hair trimmer, a steel wool cyber mat, and a radium-coated sheet. Various items totaling 322 grams, valued at Rs. 18,17,718, were confiscated.
On November 18, officials scanning the check-in baggage of an individual on Air India Express Flight IX814 from Dubai to Mangaluru identified objects indicating the presence of heavy metal. Upon examination, two circular pieces in the car speaker, two rectangular pieces in the ear pod, and one rectangular piece in the power adapter were confirmed to be gold. An 857-gram, 24-carat gold item with a purity certificate was seized, valued at Rs. 51,84,850. The accused has been arrested and presented before the magistrate.
