Mangaluru: A group of autorickshaw drivers staged a protest in front of the Maco Cooperative Society Ltd run HP fuel station in Balmatta,  demanding a uniform price for autogas, on Friday, May 10.

The drivers alleged that though the price for the autogas is only Rs 42.50 per litre in other fuel stations, the management of Maco Society charges Rs 43.19. The autorickshaw drivers took the employees of petrol pump to task claiming that all the other fuel stations charge only Rs 42.50 per litre. When the management of the fuel station did not give satisfactory answers, the autorickshaw drivers raised slogans against them.

Arun Kumar, a Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader, informed that Maco Co-Operative Society was formed for the welfare of the members of autorickshaw and car drivers’ associations. “Then why does this society collect around 0.69 paise more per litre? When all the other fuel stations charge a uniform price, Maco Society has been collecting more money illegally,” he said.

The autorickshaw drivers withdrew their protest after the management assured them of holding a meeting on Saturday, May 11 and taking a final decision in this regard.
