Mangaluru: The Bantwal Town Police, on Tuesday, April 21, registered cases against two for allegedly circulating the photos of the district’s first COVID-19 victim.

It can be recalled that a 50-year-old woman from Kasba of the Bantwal taluk died on Sunday due to respiratory issues.

After her death, her photos were widely shared on social media and later, it was confirmed that she had contracted the novel coronavirus.

As it is prohibited to share photos of Covid-19 victims, Dakshina Kannada district Superintendent of Police Dr B M Lakshmi Prasad cautioned the public against sharing the woman’s photos.

However, two persons in the Bantwal taluk disregarded the warning and shared the deceased’s photos.

With the help of the cybercrime police, the two offenders were traced and a case has been registered against them.
