Bantwala: In the wake of incessant rains over the past few days, a significant hill collapse occurred near The Gadiyara Government School on the National Highway, close to Mani in Bantwala Taluk. The incident has prompted authorities to declare a holiday for the school due to the alarming situation.

The Government School building located at Gadiyara, near Mani, along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, now finds itself in a perilous condition, causing concern among villagers in the area.

The unfortunate event was triggered during the construction work on the BC road-Addahole four-lane highway, where excavation activities were carried out close to the school building. As a result of the soil digging for the highway project, the hillock adjacent to the school gave way, resulting in a landslide.

Adding to the worries is the presence of a power plant unit constructed near the school premises, which now stands precariously due to the landslide. There is a looming fear that the power plant structure might collapse, posing a significant risk to the surrounding community.

In response to public outcry against the highway department’s oversight and safety measures, the school has been promptly declared closed until further notice. The incident has sparked debates on the importance of stringent safety protocols during infrastructure development to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
