Mangaluru: Bayer Environmental Science has come out with a tablet named ‘Barcelo Tab’, which also comes recommended by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme. The tablet is said to be effective in reducing the number of dengue cases as it prevents mosquitoes from breeding in stagnated water.

The proprietor of ‘Sumangala Agro Supplies’ Ignatius D’Souza, who procures the tablets, told reporters here on Tuesday, July 30, that ‘Barcelo Tab’ is one of many innovative solutions in the battle against dengue and an important factor in integrated vector management. “Barcelo tablets are easy to use and a sustainable solution for controlling mosquito larvae. It is also recommended by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme for public health programme,” he said.

“These tablets can be used in stagnated water, water coolers, flower pots among others and it acts as growth regulator for mosquitoes. If this tablet is mixed in water, the mosquito larvae won’t flourish, thereby controlling dengue, malaria or filariasis. One tablet can be mixed in 40 litres of water and it will be effective for 21 days. If the mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant water, they will be destroyed within this period,” Ignatius informed.

He added that he would consult Sasikanth Senthil, Deputy Commissioner of DK district to recommend it to the public in order to curb the spread of dengue in the district.
