Mangaluru: With state elections approaching, several state ministers have been undertaking innovative campaigns to woo the public in a bid to get more votes.

One of the leaders who often hits the headlines for his publicity strategies is Moideen Bawa. Bawa had recently distributed sarees among the women in his constituency too lure the women voters. In the past too he was in the news after he distributed books with his image on the cover to gain popularity among the electorate. This time round ,Bawa has made use of a religious song tune to woo the Hindus.

The popular ‘Pallikattu Sabrimala’ devotional hymn sung in praise of Lord Ayyappa has been effectively dubbed by Bawa to hail his achievements in his constituency. The promotional song –‘Kallum Mullum Kalukku Metthai ‘ — copies the tune of the devotional hymn. Hailing Bawa’s achievement, the song says that he has brought the constituency on par with global city Benagluru.

The lyrics of the song claim that the roads in the legislator’s constituency are pothole free as also that the street are well lit during night. The greivance of the house dwellers have been addressed under the Akrama Sakrama scheme of the state government, the song continues.

However few Hindu groups are irked by the fact that Bawa is using a devotional Hindu deity song to woo the public by cashing on their religious sentiments.

Speaking to Newskaranataka, VHP Divisional Secy Sharan Pumpwell condemned the use of a devotional hymn by Bawa to appease the voters. “We are contemplating filing a case against the same.”

MLA Moideen Bawa speaking to news Karnataka said, “The particular song has come to my notice. First of all I haven’t done this. It might be possible that my fans have made  this promotional song. If anyone requests me, not use this devotional song as it hurts the religious sentiment then I will stop playing this song”.
