Mangaluru: The beautifully built Guardian Angel Church Sabha Bhavan was inaugurated here on April 4 by the Bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza in the presence of chief guests former MP Oscar Fernandes, MLC Ivan D’Souza and MLA J R Lobo.
The new building was blessed and inaugurated by the bishop who also presided over the function.
After the blessing, Bishop said, “J R Lobo has granted Rs 1 Crore from the minority commission for this building and I thank him on this occasion on behalf of the parish and the whole community. He has also helped us in getting grants from minority commission to renovate and construct such buildings for our community.” He also said that the hall must be utilised by all irrespective of religions, caste and creed. He called on the people to stay united and let brotherhood prevail.
J R Lobo congratulated the parish priest and said, “For any work to become successful, a strong leader plays a vital role. Fr. Mathew Vaz along with other like-minded people have built this beautiful Sabha Bhavan on time. Earlier we used to hold functions at home because there was no need for such Sabha Bhavans. But today it is one of the necessities. The well-furnished and air-conditioned building with all the facilities can be utilised for holding conferences too. The building also needs to be maintained properly.”
Oscar Fernandes hailed the service of the bishop and the Mangaluru diocese on the occasion.
Keshava M, Maroli corporator, Rev. Fr. Victor Machado, Dean of Mangluru City Deanery and Rev. Sr. Matilda Monteiro, Provincial Superior, Sisters of Charity were the guests of honour.
