Mangaluru: In view of promoting the traditional tiger dance, Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress President Mithun Rai in association with Namma TV will be organizing a tiger dance competition on the eve of Navaratri on October 22 from 10.30 am at the volleyball court premises of Mangala Stadium, Mangaluru.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, October 21, Rai said that the top ten chosen teams will be performing the most unusual, unseen acrobatics and stunts that originally formed an integral part of the tiger-dance culture. He said that the main intention of organizing such an event was to prevent commercialization of the art-form and to sustain its legacy.
The programme will be presided over by DK District in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan will be the Chief Guest at the event.
Rai informed that the winning team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs two lakh and the Pili Nalike-2 trophy. Special performances such as best Karihuli, best painting, best traditional background score (taase) etc will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 each.
Popular Sandalwood music composer and singer Gurukiran and actor Rakshith Shetty are expected to be a part of the programme.
The programme will be compered by renowned anchor Naveen Shetty Edmemar.
