Mangaluru: The long pending demand of getting two white tigers to Dr. Shivarama Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula will likely be realized soon.
Dr. Shivarama Karanth Biological Park Director Jayaprakash Bhandary revealed to media that the proposal of getting a pair of white tigers from Rajkot, Gujarat is under process and it will be cleared by a month. The park will also get two pairs of bisons from Madras and Trivendrum.
Recently, under the animal exchange programme, the park has got three hippopotamus from Bannerghatta Biological Park. Under this programme, animals will be exchanged from one biological park to another with other animals. After giving king cobras and barking bears to other zoos, the three hippopotamus were brought to Pilikula.The Asiatic Lions which were brought from Rajkot were exchanged for a pair of lions from Pilikula. He said that two royal bengal tigers will be shifted to Rajkot in exchange for one pair of white tigers.
He also said that with the support of Rs 25 Lakhs from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) a new enclosure for Asiatic Lions was built. This would facilitate the visitors to the zoo to view animals from a short distance.
