Mangaluru: The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated and blessed the renovated Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at Kuppepadav on Saturday, July 4, in the presence of the parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza and parishioners.
Kuppepadav parish was started on August 22, 1958, dedicating the parish to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
With the rise in Catholics in the parish and since the church building was old, the need to build a new church raised, and as decided by the parishioners on September 16, 2018, foundation was laid for a new church by the Arch Bishop Emeritus of Bangalore Arch Diocese, Most Rev Bernard Moras who hails from this place.
A solemn High Mass was presided over by the Bishop Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha concelebrated with the parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza and Fr Maxim Rosario, Fr Alwyn D’Souza, Fr Anil Lobo, Fr Vijay Machado, Fr Pascal Cutinha, Fr Paul Pinto, and Fr Lesly Lewis.
After the Mass, a brief felicitation programme was held and Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha was the chief guest. The donors and guests were honored during the event. The vice president of the parish council Joseph Moras welcomed the gathering and the secretary Lona Rosario proposed the vote of thanks. Gregory Rosario compered the programme.
