Mangaluru: Former minister and MLA U T Khader urged the Centre and state governments not to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as it targets the Muslim community.
Addressing the reporters, on Wednesday, December 18, Khader alleged that the Centre is attempting to implement Citizenship (Amendment) Act and NRC throughout the country, thereby targeting the Muslim community. “As government is implementing CAA and NRC with some hidden agenda, many people in different states are engaged in holding protests. Even allies of BJP are opposing CAA after finding some drawbacks in the Bill. Hence, government should not go ahead with its decision,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khader informed that no one would like to oppose the entire Act. “Before implementing any Bill, the government should bring it to the notice of experts and general public and collect their opinion. It should be implemented only if it is approved by all as our nation is a secular nation. We will agree if the Bill undergoes some amendments, ensuring people of any community don’t face any problem. However, BJP is targeting the Muslim community under the pretext of implementing CAA and NRC,” he said.
Khader also alleged that the Centre was indulging in electoral politics. “Congress party had strived hard to bring unity among all religions during its seven decade-long administration in India. But, BJP has destroyed such unity during its short span of six years of administration. While Congress has taken all measures to shut the doors of communication with Pakistan, BJP has opened bus service and all other ways of communication with Pakistan. By showing Pakistan and picking up some sensitive issues, it is attempting to secure power in different states and ignore the welfare of the country,” he further stated.
Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat President Mohammed Monu, Congress leaders N S Kareem, Santhosh Kumar, and Ishwar Ullal were present among others.
