Mangaluru: Despite prohibitory orders clamped in the Dakshina Kannada district, the Bharatiya Janata Party workers and supporters organised a victory march in city following a thumping mandate for their candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday, May 24.
The party workers had started the victory celebration at around 10 AM, on receiving a hint that Nalin would secure victory with a huge margin this time too. They started bursting crackers and beating drums at the party office in the morning itself. After crowd gathered in the party premises near Bunts Hostel Circle, they started celebrations outside the party office, to which the police objected.
Though the police succeeded in convincing the party workers initially, they could not do so after winner Nalin Kumar Kateel arrived at party office in the evening. The immense joy of the party workers overflowed and they started a victory procession from BJP’s election office to its party office near PVS Circle. Hence, the traffic was disrupted for half-an-hour. The supporters were seen waving party flags in their vehicles and raising slogans in favour of BJP and Narendra Modi.
There was no permission to organise victory procession as prohibitory orders were clamped throughout the district. Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil told newskarnataka.com that BJP had not obtained permission for organising the procession. “Traffic movement was disrupted when Nalin Kumar Kateel went from BJP’s election office to party office in the evening and police had to control the crowd”, he said.
