Tumakuru: BJP workers from four taluks in Tumkur district staged protests against the potential candidacy of former minister V. Somanna in the upcoming elections on Sunday.
A gathering of BJP members and leaders from Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Tipaturu, and Thuruvekere taluks convened at KB Cross in Tipaturu taluk to voice their opposition to V. Somanna’s candidacy. They expressed concerns that Somanna’s candidacy would not benefit Tumkur district and demanded that J.C. Madhu Swamy be considered for the ticket instead.
Protestors blocked the road and vented their frustration, asserting that if Somanna were to receive the ticket, it could lead to defeat for the BJP in the district. They warned that Somanna’s candidacy could cast a shadow over Tumkur’s prospects and accused him of making political maneuvers detrimental to the region’s welfare.
They also raised slogans against MP G.S. Basavaraju and chants urging Somanna to “Go back.” This emphasized the need for the BJP to refrain from nominating Somanna. In a dramatic gesture, a supporter of Madhuswamy poured petrol on himself, demanding the ticket for Madhuswamy and drawing attention to the intensity of the protest against Somanna’s candidacy.
