Bantwal: A protest against the merger of Vijaya Bank was staged by the Bantwal and Panemangalore block Congress committees on Friday, November 16, in front of the bank’s B C Road branch.
Former state minister B Ramanath Rai, in his address to the gathering, accused the union government of helping corporates by allowing the profit-making Vijaya Bank with other loss-making banks. He alleged that the move was prompted by the prime minister as a ploy to tarnish the name of the bank that is the ‘pride of Dakshina Kannada.’
He rubbished MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s claim that the proposal for the merger was signed during Dr Manmohan Sign’s tenure as prime minister.
