Mangaluru: Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, the outgoing SP of Dakshina Kannada district and CH Sudhir Kumar Reddy, the IPS officer going to take his place, both have something in common. The common factor is that at one point of time both of the IPS officers have been treated by the state top leaders like doormats.
Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada was probably one among very few police officials who had made attempts to reach out to people. Borase, after taking charge as the SP had visited remotest of villages in Dakshina Kannada to understand the problems and pulse of the people. Unfortunately, the Kalladka violence led to his transfer. But, merely a few days before his transfer, a video of district in-charge minister taking him to task in front of several Congress partyworkers had gone viral. While Rai took classes on law and order, the SP smugly sat and listened through the talk, where Rai was seen directing him to initiate action against RSS Head Honcho Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in connection to the recent violence.
Soon, the transfer list was out and Mandya SP C H Sudhir Kumar Reddy was brought to Dakshina Kannada as the ruling party felt that an efficient cop needs to head the district.
But, merely few months ago, Reddy had hit headlines after CM had publicly lashed out at him calling him ‘useless’.
The CM was attending a programme in Mandya in April, when the protesting BJP members breached the security and showed black flags to the CM.
Raged by this, the CM had summoned Reddy on the dais and used harsh words at the 2010 batch IPS officer for failing to curb the protest. The CM’s ranting had ended with a ‘get out’ and the SP had to suffer the humiliation in full public view.
