Mangaluru: In order to mark World Cancer Day, the AJ Cancer Institute kicked off a cancer screening and awareness camp at the AJ Hospital Campus on Tuesday, February 4. The camp will go on up to February 18 between 9:30 am and 2:00 pm.
Dignitaries inaugurated the camp with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Addressing the gathering, AJHRC Medical Administration Director Dr Amitha Marla said, “All facilities to detect and cure cancer are available at AJHRC. Kids and teenagers will be given more focus on the screening and awareness camp and more NGO’s will be roped in to spread the word to the people about cancer care.”
Dr K Kamalaksha Shenoy, Radiation Oncologist, and Dr Rachan Shetty KS, Consultant Medical Oncologist gave some insight on cancer symptoms, detection, care and facilities available at the AJ Cancer Institute. “Cancer detected at the right time can be cured and AJ Cancer Institute has all facilities and the latest technology under one roof to give the best care to cancer patients and this institute is one of the best in the region”, they said.
In his address, Ankith S Kumar from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management extended the institution’s support to promote the cause of cancer awareness. AJ Cancer Institute Consultant Radiation Oncologist Dr K Kamalaksh Shenoy and Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr Rachan Shetty also delivered talks on cancer awareness.
Following this, BHA and MHA students put up a short skit. Earlier, Dr Chaitra welcomed the gathering and Dr Sathya delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Vinoda.
Student support councilor of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Ankith S Kumar, Roshni Nilaya Registrar Dr Vinitha Rai, Dr Vishwanath, Dr Venkataraman Kini, Dr Kavitha, Dr Naveen R Rodrigues, Dr Suresh Karanth, Dr Sujith Rai, Dr Akshatha Nayak, radiation physicists, technicians, nursing staff, and others were present at the inauguration.
