Mangaluru: The state government’s move to restrict the number of students to 30 for the English medium sections in government schools is being widely opposed in the Dakshina Kannada district.
The state government has decided to start English medium sections in 1000 government schools in this academic year. Due to this, many government schools in the district were flooded with parents along with their children for admission English medium sections. But, they were disappointed on coming to know that the government had restricted the number of admissions to 30 only in English medium sections per school.
Earlier, the government had decided to enroll all the students to English medium sections and there was no restrictions on number. Later, the government issued a circular that only 30 students would be enrolled in the English medium sections. This has created confusion among the parents and they have urged the government to allow all students to join English medium sections.
Prakash Anchan, State President of the Sarakari Shale Ulisi Belesi Committee, in a press release, has alleged that the decision to enroll all students in the English medium section was withdrawn after private schools exerted pressure on the government. He has urged the government to revoke the restriction on numbers completely and not play with the life of the children.
