Car mows down toddler standing in pedestrian zone

Bantwal: A 3-year-old toddler standing along with her mother in a pedestrian zone was mowed down by a speeding car in Moorje of Pilatbettu village limits. The seriously injured child succumbed to injuries in the hospital later on January 6

The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi (3), daughter of Lohitaksha, a resident of Vamanjoor, in Mangaluru, while toddler’s mother Pramila (26) was injured.

The incident took place when Pramila and Vaishnavi were waiting for a bus en route to Mannur to take part in a baby shower ceremony at a relatives’ residence. The speeding Nano car coming from Kavalakatte car hit the toddler and her mother standing beside her and subsequently knocked down several other vehicles before coming to a halt. A severely injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital but it failed to survive.

The police have arrested car driver Moiudin Saheb, a resident of Punjalkatte in connection with the incident.

Punjalkatte Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Suresh of Mannur.
