Mangaluru: The Center for Development Studies and Education (CEDSE)-Care Child Cancer, is a civil society organisation that aims at saving lives of children from cancer from the economically and marginalized groups by curative, preventive and healthy promotional interventions.
With the vision of a society where there is Justice, Wellness and Sustainable Development, they primarily engage with alternative education, organization promotion and research studies to address the disempowerment section, especially women and children.
Care Child Cancer, initiated in 2013 with Government Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore is undertaken by CEDSE for the wellness promotion agenda. The service of the same at present is being operated in association with KMC, Fr. Muller’s and Wenlock Hospitals in Mangalore.
Components of the Care Child Cancer service:
*Financial support towards meeting costs incurred on investigation procedures, travel, certain medicines, daily allowance not covered under the government schemes.
*Regular follow-up to ensure compliance by patients with the prescribed treatment cycles.
*Arranging fresh blood in case of emergencies.
*Psychological support to the affected children and caretakers.
*Wholesale rates and discount charges on medicines.
*Providing nutritional to enhance immunity
*Promoting awareness to facilitate early detection, referral, and timely treatment
*End of life (palliative) care service to the child
In addition to supporting the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer patients, the CCC also plans to provide in the future:
*Nutritious food for affected children
*Patient/ Family support after treatment
*Support of families diseased patients to rebuild their lives
*Prevention programs such as identifying causes, demographics, early detection and intervention
*Health promotion programs in communities and schools
*Disseminate knowledge on childhood cancer and other non-communicable diseases in particular and holistic health and well-being in general.
*To evolve a replicable model of service to children affected by diseases such as cancer and advocate for policy change to address the lacunae in health services.
