Catholic Sabha requests govt to declare Sep 8 as a public holiday

Mangaluru: Monti Fest, or the Feast of Nativity, is a major Mangalorean Catholic festival that is celebrated on September 8 every year. On behalf of the entire Mangalorean Catholic community, the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) has requested the Deputy Commissioner, District In-charge Minister U T Khader and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to declare September 8 of every year as a public holiday.

Sasikanth Senthil, Deputy Commissioner of the Dakshina Kannada district, considering the plea made by the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), has announced a one day holiday for students of primary schools, high schools and colleges of in the district on Saturday, September 8.

In a press note released on Friday September 6, Rolphy D’Costa, President of the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) said, “As this holiday is only valid for this year, the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), on behalf of all the members of the Catholic community, will continue its efforts to convince the government to approve September 8 of every year as a government holiday.”

He then thanked DC Senthil, U T Khader and HDK for granting a holiday for this year’s Nativity feast.

Spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Mathew Vas, President Designate Stany Lobo, Vice President David D’Souza, Secretary Celestine D’Souza, Joint Secretary Anil Patrao, Treasurer Vivid D’Souza, Joint Treasurer James Lobo and IP President Anil Lobo were also present.
