Mangaluru: Society can only prosper when Catholics are inducted into it as we have always contributed to society in every field, said Mangaluru Diocese Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
He was speaking at the Catholic Maha Samavesha – 2020 held at the Sacred Heart Church ground, Madanthyar on Sunday, February 2. Bishop Saldanha further said, “Catholics have always believed in God as well as man. God should be worshipped in order to make society more prosperous.”
In his keynote address, Belthangady Bishop Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy said, “We are a community that respects and loves all religions. Through our educational institutions, people of all religions are being educated. We never try to convert anybody even though sportspersons, educationalists, scientists, and intellectuals have studied in Christian managed institutions. The Christian community has always been at the forefront of education, healthcare, and social service.”
NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Coloco said, “We are lucky to be born in a great country like India. This is a country that has retained its democracy and there will always be equality, harmony, and passion here.”
Puttur Diocese Rev Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios, Catholic Sabha (Mangaluru) President Rolphie D Costa, Mangaluru Diocese Vicar General Msgr Maxim L Noronha, Belthangady Diocese Msgr Joseph Valiyaparambil, and others were present.
