Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested an inter-district chain snatcher and seized gold ornaments, car and mobile phones, estimated at Rs 6.6 Lakh from his possession on Tuesday, October 9.
The accused has been identified as Shakib alias Sabbu (25), a resident of Katipalla, Surathkal. A team of police headed by CCB Inspector Shantharam and Sub-Inspector Shyam Sundar grew suspicious about a car, which was plying at Vamanjuru. They intercepted the car and detained Shakib for questioning. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Shakib was involved in several chain snatching cases pertaining to Moodbidri, Karkala rural, Karkala town, and Shirva police stations. There were six pending cases against him at Surathkal police station in connection with an attempt to murder and theft, a robbery case at Bajpe police station and a bike theft case at Mangaluru North police station.
The accused has been handed over to Moodbidri police station for further investigation, police sources said.
