Mangaluru: Noted Bharatanatyam dancer Jayalakshmi Alva died here on Wednesday. To pay homage to the legendary danseuse, a condolence meet, was organised by the Sahitya Parishat in association with other organisations at Woodlands Hotel on July 23.
S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura the president of Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat addressed the gathering and remembered her dedication towards the art she performed. He said, “Jayalakshmi Alva is a goddess who had always enriched the traditional art form of Bharatanatyam and had been an uplifting our culture.”
Ms. Alva was the director of Sridevi Nritya Kendra founded in the city in 1974. She was the recipient of Natyarani Shantala Award, Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Nrityakala Shiromani Award, and Karnataka Tala Tilaka Award among other awards.
