City to face water shortage for two more days

Mangaluru: As the city has been experiencing a shortage of water supply for the past three-days and the residents have turned frenzied over the much too frequent water cuts, MCC continues to defend themselves with new avenues.

According to the MCC, this time the reason for the water cut is the immense dumped mud over a pipeline passing through the Kannur road.

Water for the city is brought in from Thumbay. These pipelines are placed in the MCC acquired land. However, according to the sources, some people dumped waste mud over these lines that have damaged the pipes and hence there was an outburst in the Kannur area.

On August 3, Mayor Jacintha Alfred along with Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo and other corporators of MCC visited and conducted a recce.   JR Lobo said that the people who have dumped the mud here should be booked. “Once the culprits are known we will surely file an FIR on them, he added.

The Mayor also said that the issue will be rectified as soon as possible. However, when asked as to why no intimation was given to the people of the city, she said that they were trying to rectify the issue as soon as possible and thus no notice was given.

Corporator Shashidhar Hegde said, “The work was scheduled to be completed by today morning. However, another part of the pipe has broken, due to which there is a delay. For the next two-days there will be a shortage of water, he said.

Meanwhile, DC Ibrahim also mentioned that people dump mud or other kinds of debris over these pipelines and they end up damaged. “The MCC must not allow people to use the space allotted for pipelines”, he said.
