Mangaluru: Some pubs in the city are supplying drugs, apart from alcohol, to the youth, said the Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadloor Satyanarayanacharya.
He was addressing the gathering during a programme organized to campaign against drugs and cybercrime and to create awareness about the need to maintain communal harmony in schools and colleges. The programme was organized by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association (DKDWJA) in association with the district administration and Department of Police at the Canara College on Tuesday, September 24.
Stating that he received this information from his own sources, Judge Kadloor said, “The pubs in the city procure drugs for the youngsters along with alcohol, to gain additional income. Although the parents are aware that their children are going to the pubs, they don’t know how these pubs are destroying the kids’ lives.”
He then narrated a recent incident where the police produced seven engineering students before him. Kadloor said that he was shocked to hear what the students had to say. “Although some police officials are trying to root out this menace, they are getting transferred immediately,” he lamented.
Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association (DKDWJA) President Srinivas Nayak, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha and Canara High School Association Honorary Secretary M Ranganath Bhat were present.
