Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Civic Group is organising a workshop on ‘Area Sabhas` and ‘Ward Committees’ at the auditorium of St Aloysius College on December 15 at around 9.30 am.
A press release from MCC Civic Group informed that Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil will inaugurate the programme. Executive Trustee, Civic Group Bengaluru Kathyayini Chamaraj and ‘Nagarika Shakti` president Narendra Kumar will be chief guests at the programme.
The agenda of the programme will be an introduction of the 74th constitutional amendment 1992- community participation in Municipal governance in conjunction with Section 13 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act 1976 and what it means for the future of smart city project of Mangaluru. An interaction programme and video presentation, highlighting the results of the absence of citizens participation in Mangaluru governance will also be there at the programme.
The objectives of the programme are to develop a functional understanding of the ‘Area Sabhas’ and ‘Ward Committees` system of governance and civic issues that affect citizens in everyday life, to impart elementary skills in accessing the institutionalisation of citizen participation and processes, to enable citizens to use public advocacy and to develop a cadre of dutiful citizens to strengthen and aid the local governance service delivery system, the press release said.
