CM HDK asks Kukke pontiff to give up hunger strike, assures to solve issue

Mangaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has asked Sri Vidyaprasanna Teertha Swamiji of Kukke Subramanya Matt to give up his hunger strike, assuring that the problem would be rectified soon.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, October 14, Kumaraswamy said, “As the whole country is celebrating Dasara fest, Subramanya Matt pontiff should give up his hunger strike immediately. Measures will be taken to solve problems pertaining to Kukke Subramanya Matt”, he said. It can be noted that Vidyaprasanna Teertha Swamiji is on a hunger strike protesting against the forest department’s action of cutting the drinking water supply pipeline to the matt.”

Pertaining to a query on an allegation against MLC B M Farooq regarding illegal sand mining at Ullal, Kumaraswamy said, “I will collect information from the officials concerned about the illegal sand mining soon. Disciplinary action will be taken if the allegation is proven”, he said.

Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy admitted that Madhu Bangarappa will file nomination from Shivamogga on Monday, October 15. “There was no misunderstanding of any sort between Janata Dal (S) and Congress on selecting Madhu Bangarappa for the by-election in Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency”, he said.
