Mangaluru: The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shoor and fishing boat Matsya Dweepa successfully rescued five fishermen from a capsized boat on Wednesday, August 24 off Netrani Island near Bhatkal.

A press release from the Indian Coast Guards stated that a fishing boat named ‘Amma’ owned by Nagesh Naik from Murudeshwar had ventured into sea for fishing with five crew onboard from Honnavar Port on August 23. Due to a leakage, the boat was sinking and after all attempts to prevent the boat from sinking, the distressed fishermen passed message to other fishing boat Matsya Dweepa and ICGS Shoor.

Boat towed

In another operation ICGS Shoor successfully towed a stranded fishing boat ‘Sowmya’ (Reg No. KA 03 MM 3587) with eight crew to Malpe. The boat had ventured for fishing on August 19 and was stranded for two days at a distance of 54 Kms from Malpe due to machinery failure. ICGS Shoor towed the boat safely to Malpe despite rough sea conditions.
