Mangaluru: Following repeated complaints against city buses, the police department is forming a special team to conduct raids from next week.
The complaints with regard to the rude behaviour by city bus operators, reckless driving, overloading, no reservation of seats for women and senior citizens in buses among others are quite common. During the weekly phone-in programme also, most of the complaints are always with regard to the city buses.
Hence a meeting of the city bus owners and police officials was convened in city on Friday, June 7, where Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh disclosed that a special team would be formed and that it would conduct raids on the city buses to ensure that all operators follow guidelines properly.
The Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association President Dilraj Alva admitted the mistakes of some bus staff members and informed that clear directions had already been issued to them against such attitudes in future. He also confided that some city buses skip the scheduled routes and trips and asked the police department to take disciplinary action against such offenders.
Responding to it, Lakshmi Ganesh asked Dilraj Alva to take the help of ACP (Traffic) Manjunath Shetty to regulate such traffic offences.
