Compol invokes Section 35 of Police Act in city commissionerate limits

Mangaluru: In an attempt to check on the communal elements fuelling tension in the Dakshina Kannada district, the Mangaluru city police Commissioner T R Suresh has invoked provisions of section 35 of Karnataka Police Act 1963 in the limits of the city commissionerate from July 16 to July 30 midnight.

Under the Act any action, which is viewed as an attempt to undermine the security or incite tension will be prohibited during this period.

Some of the things that come under the purview of this act include:

(a) the carrying of arms, cudgels, swords, spears, bludgeons, guns, knives, sticks, or lathis, or any other article which is capable of being used for causing physical violence,
(b) carrying of any corrosive substance or of explosives,
(c) carrying, collection and preparation of stones or other missiles or instruments or means of casting or impelling missiles,
(d) exhibition of persons or the corpses or figures or effigies thereof,

The Commissioner and the District Magistrate in areas under their respective charges may, whenever and for such time as he shall consider necessary, provided the same does not extend beyond 15 days without government nod for the preservation of public peace or public safety is permitted to invoke the act.
