Mangaluru: A delegation led by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) opposition leader Abdul Ravoof met Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh and urged to reconsider the decision of complete lockdown claiming that it has made the life of common people more distressful.
The delegation, in its memorandum, informed that the decision of keeping the district under complete lockdown is unscientific.
The delegation suggested that the grocery shops should be kept open from 8 am to 12 pm every day.
“The wholesale dealers in the Bunder area will run out of stocks soon if the situation continues. With the stock of vegetables diminishing in the market, chicken and mutton stalls must be allowed to open,” they informed adding that the decision of launching online supply of grocery items through a mobile app is incorrect as it will only help the rich and the urban population.
“Hence, instead of allowing online procurement of grocery items, the decision of complete lockdown should be reconsidered and grocery shops should be kept open between 8 am and 12 pm every day,” the delegation insisted.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA U T Khader, corporators and other senior leaders of Congress were present.
