Mangaluru: A delegation of Congress leaders, headed by Mangaluru MLA U T Khader, met Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and submitted a memorandum to rectify the various problems pertaining to Covid-19, including issues of the Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod border areas.
During the meeting, the delegation informed the Minister that even after the lockdown was relaxed, the movement of vehicles and people between Karnataka and Kerala was still restricted. This has resulted in many people living in the border areas becoming jobless. They urged the Minister to issue passes to the people so that they can travel between the districts for their work.
Khader also urged the Minister to release people coming from other states from quarantine only after ensuring that they are not infected with the coronavirus. “There should not be any relaxation in the quarantine period,” he said.
After receiving the memorandum from the delegation, Minister Kota said that he had already approached Chief Secretary Vijay Bhaskar to address the problems of those who are working in the border areas. “This problem is expected to be resolved by today evening itself. Meanwhile, the district administration will look into all the suggestions made by the Congress leaders and take the appropriate measures to rectify the problems,” he added.
MLCs Ivan D’Souza, Hareesh Kumar, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai and others were present.
