Mangaluru: During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on April 13, MLC Ivan D’Souza has cautioned of holding a “Go Back Modi” movement if the Congress leaders are not allowed to submit a memorandum to him regarding the Vijaya Bank merger.

Addressing the reporters at district Congress office on Thursday, April 11, Ivan said, “By merging the profit-making Vijaya Bank with the Bank of Baroda, the union government has cheated the people of Dakshina Kannada district. Though the Congress leaders had urged MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to talk with the central ministers to prevent the merger, he has not done anything so far. Hence, we want to submit a memorandum to PM Modi to at least retain the name of Vijaya Bank during his visit here on April 13. We will ask the district administration to allow us to meet Modi and file a memorandum. If we are not allowed to do the same, we will raise the ‘Go Back Modi’ slogan on that day, he cautioned.

Pointing at the Supreme Court’s rejection of the Centre’s plea on the classified Rafale Deal documents, Ivan said that though the central government had pleaded with the Supreme Court to not ask for some of the confidential documents, it has been rejected. “Government has been ordered to place every document pertaining to Rafale Deal in public domain. Congress welcomes the move by the Supreme Court and Modi government’s corruption will be exposed soon”, he said.

Ivan also opined that there was no Modi wave, either in Dakshina Kannada district or in the whole country. People would definitely reject BJP, he said and asked the people of DK district to elect Mithun Rai this time.

Congress leaders Sadashiv Ullal, B A Mohammed Haneef, Ashraf and Mustafa C N among others were present.
