Mangaluru: The work on the Pumpwell flyover has been moving at snails place for several years now. With respect to this, there have been several protests by the people of the city, who have been inconvinienced by this. Now, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has informed that this work will be completed by the end of January, next year. He has also said that traffic movement would commence over the bridge in Thokottu towards the end of December.

After inspecting the progress of the flyover work, he told reporters that it is the failure of the state government to acquire land within the prescribed time that has led to the delay in the construction of the flyover.

He also listed other reasons for the delay, some of them being the moving of the massive ‘Kalasha’ from the Mahaveera circle, the decision to build the service bus stand next to the highway and the financial loss of the contracting company in charge of the work. He then said that the pace of the construction had picked up in 2016 and hence, is now in the final phase.

As for who is responsible for the delay, the MP he brought up various projects undertaken when the Congress held power at the Centre and in the state, that were improperly done or took too long to complete.

They have not given any explanations for all these delays. I have maintained silence on this so far as I do not want to play play politics with development, the Union minister said.
