Belthangady: A convention with the tagline ‘Sathyameva Jayahthe- Triumph of the Truth’ was organised in Amruthvarshini Hall of Belthnagady on Friday, by a section of people to celebrate the clean-chit given to Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade’s family in the sensational Saujanya rape and murder case.
Vishwa Hindu Parishath Pranth Adhyaksh Prof M B Puranik said that the clash between the truth and lie has been going on since time immemorial, but it is the truth that always emerges victorious at the end. “Even in this case, the truth has won,” he said.
SCDCC bank Chairman Dr M N Rajendra Kumar said that CID has done justice to Saujanya in a way.
Former Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Yakshagana artist Ashok Bhat, Janajagruthi Vedike former President Rehman among others were present.
A 17-year-old PU student was raped and found murdered in Belthangady area in 2012. The incident had shaken the entire region and soon the suspicion pin pointed at some of the family members of Dr Veerendra Heggade. Certain sections, including Saujanya’s parents stood by this claim. After series of protests the case was handed over to the CID, which in its recent report gave clean-chit to Dr Heggade’s family, upholding the earlier findings that a mentally unstable man named Santhosh had executed the crime.
