Kasargod: A gang of 20 men attacked and attempted to kill two cops checking illegal sand mining in Talangere here on July 21.
Officers attached to Kasargod coastal police station Ranjith V K and Rathish Chandran suffered severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at a general hospital.
Based on a credible information about the illegal sand mining being carried out in the area, the cops left to Talangere as per SI Mohan’s order. The two officers questioned over 20 men who had already loaded sand into five boats. When the officers tried to seize it, the gang attacked and tried to kill them. They were pushed into the rivulet by the gang. However, the additional police force rushed to their rescue and saved them.
As many as 20 persons involved in sand mining have been booked by the police in connection to this incident.
