Mangaluru: The police department, on Saturday, August 31, conducted route marches across the city in order to assure the residents that they are safe and to allay any fears ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
Meanwhile, the department also deployed police forces in the sensitive areas of the city in order to prevent any untoward incidents. Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganeshotsava is celebrated by installing the Ganesha idols at 220 places in the Dakshina Kannada district. The police department has already identified 63 places in the city as sensitive and 19 places as hyper-sensitive. Appropriate security measures were implemented in these locations.
A total of 697 civil police, five platoons of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) police, four Karnataka Special Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons and 226 homeguards have been deployed in the district.
