Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar informed on Monday April 25 that four police officers, including a Bajpe Police Inspector, had been suspended for allegedly assaulting three youngsters during questioning in connection with an argument at a shop near Kateel Temple.
Sandesh and police officers Praveen, Sunil, and Imtiyas have been suspended.
The Commissioner said that a complaint was filed against four people for allegedly misbehaving and abusing three youth at Bajpe Police Station. The allegations were found to be prima facie true after an investigation led by Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar.
The Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner ordered the closure of shops at the Kateel Temple a few days ago. Many stores, however, stayed open for business.
The three youths had questioned a coconut vendor about it, which resulted in an argument. The youths were then ordered to report to the police station in Bajpe. The youths were allegedly beaten by police officers while they were being questioned.
Following the findings, disciplinary actions against the officers were taken, and they were suspended until further orders, he said.
He further said that a thorough probe will be conducted into the case under the supervision of DCP Hariram Shankar. Two of the youngsters who were injured in the attack are being treated at Wenlock Hospital, while another is being treated at a private hospital in Kateel, informed Shashi Kumar.
