Mangaluru: Eight police personnel who had unanimously supported a police inspector relating to a controversy are in trouble.
It is now revealed that the office of the police commissioner has recommended action against the personnel and has submitted a report to the state department of home.
According to sources, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, had written a letter to the chairman of the legislative council seeking the information regarding the action taken against cops who had extended support to the police inspector. Thereafter, the letter was forwarded to the department of home and then to the office of the police commissioner.
After going through the video footage, city deputy commissioner of police (law and order), Shantaraju, and Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Madan Gaonkar, prepared a report, based on which the police commissioner Chandre Sekhar submitted another report.
A few months back, Abubakker accused in a criminal case was arrested by rural inspector, Pramod Kumar. Several police officers and politicians reportedly contacted the police over phone and put him under pressure to release the accused, but he refused to do so.
The police personnel along with the support of a few locals stood by Pramod Kumar’s side when the department decided to suspend him.
The department then decided to transfer the police inspector to Chamarajanagar instead of suspending him as the incident drew a lot of public attention. Four constables were transferred and another four were sent back to the parent department and then removed from service. Action has been recommended against eight of the remaining 16 personnel.
