Mangaluru: As a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (covid-19), Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has issued an order asking the public not to attend temple fests or any programmes conducted at religious centres from Tuesday, March 17.
It is very common for religious institutions in the coastal district to hold their annual fair during the summer, during which thousands of devotees participate in religious rituals. However, owing to the covid-19 scare, the Deputy Commissioner was forced to order the public not to attend such utsavs. The intention of the order is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the district. The order states that devotees can visit religious centres, but all services being offered to the devotees would be suspended until further notification. Devotees’ are also banned from staying in temples until further notification.
The DC also asked the public not to hold any events like summer camps, seminars etc. and avoid huge gatherings for weddings and other personal programmes. The order also prohibits the public from visiting beaches and directs paying guest accommodations and hostels to maintain hygiene.
