Mangaluru: In accordance with the directions of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde, health and revenue officials launched an eviction drive against streetside eateries on Monday, March 16.

This drive was conducted as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and cholera diseases. Prior to the raid, necessary arrangements, including videography of the raids, were made by the officials.

Areas surrounding State Bank and the central market were raided by the officials. After the raids were announced, many street vendors were seen vacating the areas and some vendors were seen requesting the officials not to evict them. However, officials asked them to clear their shops immediately.

More details are awaited.
