Mangaluru: The newly established Coastalwood Artists and Technicians Association, Mangalore is organising a cricket tournament for the players of coastal film industry under the title of Coastalwood Premier League from 4 to 8 April at Nehru Maidan here.
The players of the film industry will represent in eight teams named,
1. Glitz Gladiators
2. M W Strikers
3. Kadandale Tigers
4. Kalkude Belters
5. Royal Rangers
6. Jugari Warriors
7. Brand Vision Tuskers
8. R S Brothers
All the teams are owned by different franchisees.
The one hundred and forty players of the industry have been divided into three categories based on their performance shown in the trial matches conducted last year. The players will be distributed to the teams through an auction process which will be held at Forum Fiza Mall on March 15 at 3 pm. Each team can utilise the auction money of Rs 3,00000 each. Each team has to purchase one star player, one icon player, four players from A Pool, four players from B pool and three players from C pool.
The following are identified as star players – Arjun Kapikad, Rupesh Shetty, Asthik Shetty, Anup Sagar, Saurab Bhandary, Prathvi Amber, Shravan Kadri and Prakash Shetty.
The tournament will be held in the format of IPL and MPL. The organisers of MPL Mohammed Sirajuddin and Imthiaz are looking after the whole event under the banner of Brand Vision Event Management team.
The eight teams will be divided into two pools of four teams each. During the league system, each team has to play three matches and three teams from each pool will be qualified to the knockout stage. The teams placed number one will directly qualify to the semi finals. However, the teams placed second and third have to play in eliminator matches to qualify to the semi finals. The matches will be held on the basis of 10 overs a side. The winners will receive an attractive trophy and cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 and the runners-up team will be awarded trophy with cash prize of Rs 1,00,000. Man of the match award will be given in every match. Man of the series, Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best fielder awards will also be given. There will be a special prize to the players who hit the highest number of sixers in the tournament.
Ministers, MPs, MLA s and other eminent persons are in the CPL Advisory Committee. Also cine stars Devidas Kapikad, Naveen Padil, Vijayakumar Kodialbail, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, Shivsharan Shetty, Vijaya Vittalnatha Shetty etc., are also in the committee.
