Mangaluru : On Sunday, February 11, a two-wheeler rider lost his life when his car collided with a KSRTC bus close to Arkula Dwara in Adyar on the national highway.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Charanraj, a local. He was struck by the bus as he was getting on the highway from the inner road.
Charanraj, who was survived by his wife and child, was only married for a year. His parents only had one son, him.
Locals protested the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) lack of safety measures by blocking traffic, expressing their burgeoning rage and frustration. Their complaints were made worse by the highway’s purportedly non-scientific work and lack of proper safety measures.
There was a barricade at the accident scene that was meant to restrict traffic speed, but it had collapsed the night before after being hit by a car. Due to the bus’s ability to approach at a high speed, a deadly collision resulted. Remarkably, locals assert that since the NHAI began building new roads, over ten fatalities have happened under comparable conditions.
This terrible event is reminiscent of one that happened at the same spot in December of last year, when a bike rider was hit by a bus and died. Local authorities have not responded to residents’ repeated requests for assistance.
