Mangaluru: The police have taken the issue of the drug menace in the state as a serious matter and is committed to curbing the drug mafia, said Additional Director General of Police Kamal Panth here on Thursday, August 30.
Addressing a press meet at the Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s office here, he said that the police department is conducting inquiries in this regard as Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G Parameshwara has also asked that the police department give priority to tackling the drug menace.
On the issue of increasing the police staff in the Mangaluru City and Dakshina Kannada police station limits, the ADGP said that a comprehensive proposal for the same will be sent to the goverment.
“Apart from the recommendations made in the Dharmaveer Committee report, the department is also thinking of increasing the staff across the state by identifying prominent police stations,” he added.
He also informed that the FSL report of Shiroor Math seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swami has been received and that both the post-morterm and FSL reports have been sent to forensic experts to obtain a synchronized opinion. “As part of the investigation, we have sent three rounds of queries to the Toxicology Department at KMC on the basis of their post-morterm report. We have received answers for one round of queries and are yet to receive queries to the other two,” he said.
A review meeting with the Dakshina Kannada police, Mangaluru City Police and Udupi District police about the law and order situation will be held, he added.
