Mangaluru: Festivities involving the coastal city’s prominent “Mangaluru Dasara” celebrations concluded on a grand note at Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple in the wee hours of Wednesday, October 9.
Navarathri, a nine-day festival, was celebrated at Kudroli temple and began with the installation of nine idols depicting the different avatars of Goddess Durga and Goddess Sharada on September 29.
The 10th day of the festival, known as “Vijaya Dashami”, is a significant day for Hindus as it marks the triumph of good over evil. In view of this victory, a grand procession of all the nine idols (and Goddess Sharada) was conducted over 7.5 km of the city.
The procession also included over 40 tableaux representing the different cultures and traditions of Dakshina Kannada.
This time, on public demand, the decorated parade floats carrying the idols of Lord Ganesha and the Goddesses, along with Brahmashri Narayan Guru’s photo frame, led the procession with the other tableaux following closely behind it.
The temple administration had taken this decision based on public opinion as many of them had said that they could not wait for hours together to get a glimpse of Goddesses and that some were old aged and had come from far off places.
The procession concluded in the wee hours of Wednesday with the immersion of all the idols in an artificial pond located within the Kudroli temple premises.
